Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: 25-year-old can be Man United captain
Paul Pogba can captain Manchester United one day, according to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes that Paul Pogba has all of the necessary attributes to be able to captain Manchester United in the future.
The 25-year-old midfielder appears to have been given a new lease of life under the Norwegian following Solskjaer’s appointment as Manchester United’s interim boss until the end of the season.
Solskjaer was brought in to replace the sacked Jose Mourinho last month and he has enjoyed a 100 per cent record so far, winning all seven of his opening games in charge.
Pogba – who was stripped of the vice-captaincy under Mourinho – has been in fine form in recent weeks and has scored five goals and made four assists in his last six appearances for Manchester United.
There had been speculation about Pogba’s future at Old Trafford under Mourinho, but Solskjaer now clearly feels that the midfielder has the potential to become Manchester United captain in the future.
Speaking in an interview quoted by Sky Sports, Solskjaer replied when asked if Pogba could become club captain one day: “Definitely, yeah, because I know the boy from before, and he is a leader,” said Solskjaer.
“He’s a character, he influences people, and you’ve seen the videos from France, and he cares, and he really wants to be successful.
“He knows he can’t do it by himself, it’s a team game, and he’s a character that brings so many good things with him when he’s enjoying himself, I have to say.
“You see the personality. He’d love playing football, he’s a larger-than-life character, that’s just the way he is.
“When the performances come as well, that marries together as a good leader and you see what it meant to him winning the World Cup in what France broadcast.
“So, for me, yes, he’s captain material.”
Pogba will be hoping to feature for Manchester United when the Red Devils return to Premier League action on Tuesday night with a home clash against Burnley at Old Trafford.
Manchester United are currently in sixth place in the Premier League table and are level on points with fifth-placed Arsenal.
