Michael Owen has backed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to notch up his fifth successive victory when Manchester United take on Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup third round on Saturday.

The Red Devils have made an impressive start to life under the Norwegian coach following four Premier League victories to inject life into their top-four challenge.

Manchester United were 2-0 winners against Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Wednesday night courtesy of goals from Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford in the second half.

The 20-time English champions have beaten Cardiff City, Huddersfield Town and Bournemouth since the former Manchester United striker took over the reins last month.

Solskjaer was drafted in to replace Jose Mourinho on an interim basis, although Manchester United’s impressive form has prompted calls for the ex-striker to get the role permanently.

Reading, on the other hand, are 23rd in the Championship table and five points from safety to suffer an alarming drop in form over the past 12 months or so.

Former Liverpool FC and Manchester United striker Owen is tipping Solskjaer’s men to secure a comfortable victory over Reading in the FA Cup third round this weekend.

“United have lost just one of their 14 FA Cup ties against Reading and that was back in 1927!” Owen told BetVictor.

“Ole Gunnar Solskjaer became just the second United manager after the legendary Sir Matt Busby (1946) to win his first four league games in charge of the Red Devils when his side won at St James’s Park midweek.

“United look full of goals and confidence at present and I would expect to see an emphatic home win at Old Trafford against the Royals.”

Manchester United lost 1-0 to Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final at Wembley last season after Eden Hazard’s winner from the penalty spot.
