Man United table contract offer in bid to keep attacker – report
Manchester United want to tie Juan Mata down to a new one-year contract, say reports
Manchester United have offered Juan Mata a new contract in a bid to avoid losing the playmaker on a free transfer, according to reports in the British media.
The Daily Mirror is reporting that the Red Devils want to keep hold of the 30-year-old midfielder and have offered him a 12-month extension to his current deal at Old Trafford.
Mata is out of contract in the summer and the same report says that Manchester United are keen to avoid losing the former Chelsea FC playmaker on a free transfer.
It is claimed in the same story that Manchester United have offered Mata a new contract worth around £6.7m in total as they look to try and get him to commit his future to the club for another year.
The same story says that Manchester United’s hierarchy prefer not to offer contracts longer than 12 months to players over the age of 30.
Mata has found his first-team opportunities at Old Trafford to be somewhat restricted this season and it remains to be seen whether he will commit his future to the club or not.
The Spaniard will be hoping to feature for Manchester United when they return to Premier League action on Sunday with a trip to Leicester City.
