Manchester United are ready to launch a bid to sign Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic in the January transfer window, according to a report in Italy.
Tuttosport, as quoted by Metro, is reporting that Manchester United are ready to step up their interest in the Fiorentina centre-half this month.
The same article states that axed Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho wanted to sign Milenkovic but the Red Devils have kept the defender on their wishlist.
According to the same story, Manchester United could face competition from defending Premier League champions Manchester City for the promising centre-half.
Metro adds that Manchester United have also been touted with an interest in Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly but Milenkovic could be a cheaper option.
Manchester United have won five successive games in all competitions under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer since the Norwegian was made the club’s temporary manager.
The Red Devils have struggled defensively over the past few months after conceding 32 times in 21 games in the Premier League.
Chris Smalling, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo have all struggles with various injury problems in the current campaign, preventing Mourinho from settling on a consistent back four.
Manchester United are in sixth place in the Premier League table and four points behind Chelsea FC, who occupy the final Champions League qualification spot.
