PSG boss gives Neymar injury update ahead of Man United clash
Neymar is a major doubt for PSG's clash with Man United next month, confirms Thomas Tuchel
Thomas Tuchel has admitted that it will be “very difficult” for Neymar to be fit for Paris Saint-Germain’s clash with Manchester United next month.
The Brazilian superstar is a big doubt for the trip to Old Trafford on 12 February after he suffered a right metatarsal injury during PSG’s 2-0 French Cup win against Strasbourg last week.
The French side are still assessing the seriousness of Neymar’s injury but it is clear that he is a major doubt for the trip to England in a little more than two weeks.
And PSG boss Tuchel has now admitted that it looks unlikely that Neymar will be fit for the first leg clash of their Champions League last 16 tie against the Red Devils.
Speaking in an interview with French newspaper L’Equipe, as quoted by Sky Sports, Tuchel said: “It’s going to be very difficult, that is clear.
“I do not have confirmation of a new diagnosis. As I explained yesterday [Saturday], it’s too early to talk about a return date.
“We have to wait for the first week, which is very important, and its reaction to treatment.
“Only after that can we be more precise, but it’s going to be very difficult [for the United match]. It is not a secret.”
Neymar has been in top form this season, scoring 13 goals and making six assists in 13 Ligue 1 games for PSG.
Manchester United have been in superb form since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was brought in as the club’s interim boss in the wake of Jose Mourinho’s sacking last month.
The Red Devils secured their place in the fifth round of the FA Cup thanks to an impressive 3-1 win at Arsenal last week.
