David De Gea hailed a “real Manchester United” performance after their 1-0 win at title challengers Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley on Sunday evening.

The Red Devils had won five successive games in all competitions since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over the reins ahead of their clash against the north London side.

Manchester United lost 3-0 to Tottenham at Old Trafford under Jose Mourinho earlier this season but the Red Devils were far more competitive on Sunday.

Marcus Rashford broke the deadlock in the 44th minute when Paul Pogba picked out the England international with a superb pass after Kieran Trippier’s loose ball.

De Gea produced a big performance in the second half to keep Tottenham at bay after a staggering 11 saves to prevent Spurs from finding an equaliser.

The 28-year-old had to be at his best to keep out Toby Alderweireld’s glancing header with his feet to help Manchester United extend their winning run to six games.

Speaking to Sky Sports after his man of the match performance at Wembley, De Gea was keen to highlight the team’s overall display.

“We won the game against a top team, we controlled the first half but in the second half they had chances,” De Gea said.

“I was feeling very well with the first two saves, it was a great game. I don’t even remember some of the saves so I can’t pick a best.

“The manager brought some happiness, the players are playing well and the team is very strong now. This is the real Manchester United.”

Manchester United moved level on points with fifth-placed Arsenal thanks to their 1-0 win against Spurs.

The Red Devils remain six points behind Chelsea FC in fourth spot in pursuit of a Champions League spot.
