Alexandre Lacazette sends heartfelt message to Arsenal fans after BATE defeat
The Arsenal striker is confident the Gunners will progress to the round of 16 in the Europa League
Alexandre Lacazette apologised to Arsenal supporters for letting the team down after his sending off in Thursday night’s 1-0 loss to BATE Borisov.
The Gunners striker received a red card in the final five minutes of the first leg of their Europa League round of 32 clash.
The France international was sent off for elbowing BATE Borisov defender Aleksandar Filipovic.
Lacazette will miss the return fixture at The Emirates next week when the north London outfit look to overturn the 1-0 deficit.
Arsenal aren’t in action in the FA Cup this weekend following their 3-1 loss to Manchester United at Emirates Stadium in the fourth round.
So Unai Emery’s team will have a week to prepare for the return fixture when BATE Borisov travel to the English capital.
Lacazette took to Twitter to apologise to Arsenal fans and back his Gunners team-mates to progress to the last-16 draw next week.
The France star wrote on social media: “Letting the team down like that is the worst feeling.
“I should have stayed calm but it’s not always easy.. Sorry 😣 There are still 90 minutes to play and I believe that my teammates will make it to the next round.. #COYG #Laca”
Lacazette has scored 10 goals and has made five assists in 25 games in the Premier League this season.
The former Lyon striker has netted one goal and has made one assist in four Europa League outings.
Arsenal are in fifth place in the Premier League table in the race to secure a return to the Champions League after a two-season absence.
