Matteo Guendouzi was quick to reply to Ian Wright after the Arsenal legend praised the teenager’s performance in Sunday’s 3-1 loss to Manchester City.

The Arsenal summer signing has been one of the surprise packages in the Premier League this season, having arrived at The Emirates in a £7m deal from Ligue 2 side Lorient.

Unai Emery wasted no time giving the 19-year-old a chance to shine in the Premier League despite his lack of experience after making 30 senior appearances at Lorient.

Guendouzi started Arsenal’s opening two losses to Manchester City and Chelsea FC in a clear sign of faith from Arsene Wenger’s replacement.

The France Under-21 international has gone on to make a further 28 appearances in all competitions this season to establish himself as a first-team regular.

Guendouzi was one of the few Arsenal players to emerge with any real credit from their emphatic 3-1 loss to defending champions Manchester City last weekend.

Former Arsenal striker Wright was quick to praise Guendouzi’s performance on his Instagram page.

Wright wrote: “Disappointing result today. Shining light in Matteo’s performance – always wanted the ball, fought for everything and showed great composure 🌟”

And Guendouzi vowed to continue to work hard to help Arsenal in his response to the Gunners legend.

Guendouzi posted: “Thank you very much legend, I will continue to work hard to continue to progress and help my team.”

Arsenal are in sixth place in the Premier League table and three points adrift of Chelsea FC, who occupy the final Champions League qualification spot.
