Sky Sports pundit issues warning to new Arsenal signing
Alan Smith has his say on Arsenal's loan signing of Denis Suarez from FC Barcelona in January
Alan Smith believes that Denis Suarez is far from guaranteed a starting spot in the Arsenal team following his loan move from FC Barcelona.
The north London side confirmed a deadline day deal to bring the 25-year-old to The Emirates on Thursday and the Gunners have the option to make the switch permanent in the summer.
Suarez failed to feature regularly for FC Barcelona in the first part of the season and the Spaniard will now turn his attentions towards trying to impress Arsenal boss Unai Emery.
Emery knows Suarez well, having coached him during the pair’s time together at Sevilla.
Former Arsenal star Smith was pleased to see the Gunners bring in some reinforcements in January, but he is not sure that Suarez will be a regular starter in the Gunners side.
Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, as quoted by Metro, Smith said: “Arsenal fans would have loved to have seen a little bit more business in January, but they did manage to bring in Denis Suarez.
“How much will he play though? You would imagine he may be a bit of a squad player.
“Unai Emery knows him from Sevilla, he is versatile, while another young lad in Smith Rowe has gone out to Germany to get some game time.
“I do not think Emery would have given up on him and it will be good for his education, so hopefully he can come back a better player.”
Arsenal will look to continue their push towards a top-four finish when they take on Manchester City at The Etihad on Sunday afternoon.
The north London side are currently fourth in the Premier League table as they chase Champions League qualification under Emery.
