Michael Owen shuts down Arsenal with Chelsea FC comment
Michael Owen explains why he would rather play for Chelsea FC than Arsenal this season
Michael Owen has declared that playing for Chelsea FC would be a much more appealing proposition for new signings than joining Arsenal.
The two London sides have struggled to find consistent form in recent weeks and that has left them both scrapping over a place in the top four as the season continues.
Chelsea FC are currently in sixth place in the Premier League table on the back of their 6-0 drubbing at the hands of Manchester City last weekend.
Arsenal, meanwhile, are level on points with the Blues but are still in fifth place as both London sides look to try and secure qualification for next season’s Champions League.
Both of the London clubs are likely to try and significantly strengthen their squads in the summer transfer window as they look to step their games up for next season.
However, former Liverpool FC star Owen has claimed that he would much rather join Chelsea FC than Arsenal – despite the Blues’ current struggles.
Speaking to BT Sport on Thursday night, Owen said: “Chelsea and Arsenal are virtually mirror image.
“They’re on the same points in the Premier League, on the same goal difference in the Premier League, and in the same round of the Europa League.
“It’s pretty much a level playing field, but which team would you prefer to play for?
“Which team do you look at and go, wow what player, good team?
“Everyone says Chelsea are under a big cloud, but I’d prefer Chelsea every day of the week over Arsenal.”
Chelsea FC will return to FA Cup action on Monday night when they host Manchester United in the fifth-round clash at Stamford Bridge.
Arsenal have the weekend off before hosting BATE Borisov in the return leg of their Europa League tie on Thursday night.
