Unai Emery rates Arsenal’s hopes of finishing in the top four
Unai Emery has his say on Arsenal's hopes of finishing in the top four this season
Unai Emery has admitted that Arsenal need “a big help” if they are to finish in the top four this season.
The north London side suffered a setback to their hopes of securing Champions League qualification for next season when they suffered a 3-1 loss to Manchester City at The Etihad on Sunday.
Sergio Aguero scored a hat-trick for the home side as they ran out comfortable winners over Emery’s team in Manchester.
The result left Arsenal in sixth place in the Premier League table and three points behind fourth-placed Chelsea FC as the race for Champions League qualification hots up.
Emery will now be hoping to steer Arsenal back towards the Champions League spots.
However, the Spaniard has conceded that his team face an uphill task in trying to break back into the top four with 13 games left to play.
Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports after Sunday’s game, Emery said: “After losing 3-1 it’s not easy to say that [we can finish in the top four], but know we need big help.”
He continued: “Last week we won and were with Chelsea in fourth position, but we lost today, lost this position.
“But we are going to go game by game and thinking ‘win the next match’ and maybe if we win we can take the opportunity in the near future to be near the other teams and play with this motivation.
“The difference between City and us is like this result. We need to do our work. Not a big frustration at moment, the result is the difference.”
Arsenal have finished outside the top four for the last two seasons running.
They will return to Premier League action when they take on Huddersfield Town away from home on Saturday afternoon.
