Arsenal ready to sign 26-year-old this summer – report
Arsenal are interested in signing Nick Pope from Burnley this summer, say reports
Arsenal are lining up a summer transfer move to sign Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope, according to reports in the British media.
The Sun is reporting that the Gunners are ready to “pounce” with a move to sign the 26-year-old shot-stopper as Unai Emery begins to think about bolstering his squad ahead of next season.
Pope has struggled to hold down a regular spot in the Burnley team this season since he dislocated his shoulder last year, and Arsenal are now being touted as potential targets to snap him up.
The same story says that Tottenham Hotspur were previously interested in Pope, but they are no longer pursuing the transfer.
And the article now credits Arsenal with an interest as they seek a replacement for the retiring Petr Cech.
However, it is clear that Arsenal will only have the number two spot at The Emirates to offer to any potential new signing because of Bernd Leno’s solid form between the posts.
The same story says that Burnley would likely demand a transfer fee of around £10m for Pope, but Arsenal could put several fringe men into the deal.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are preparing to host BATE Borisov in the return leg of their Europa League last 32 clash on Thursday night.
