Michael Owen states his prediction for Arsenal v BATE Borisov
Michael Owen looks ahead to Arsenal's home clash with BATE Borisov in the Europa League on Thursday night
Michael Owen is backing Arsenal to secure a dominant victory over BATE Borisov to book their place in the Europa League last 16 on Thursday night.
The north London side head into the game on the back of their disappointing 1-0 loss in Belarus in the first leg last week as they look to turn around the tie and keep alive their hopes of reaching the next round.
Arsenal had the weekend off to prepare for the clash as they bid to try and keep alive their hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League by winning the Europa League this season.
It has been something of a mixed start under new manager Unai Emery as the Spaniard gets used to leading the north London side.
Former Liverpool FC star Owen is tipping the Gunners to claim the victory and progress to the next round when they host their Belarusian opponents on Thursday night.
Writing in his column for BetVictor, Owen said: “Arsenal beat Bate 6-0 at the Emirates in the group stages of the competition last season and I feel the Gunners will comfortably overturn their one-goal deficit from the first leg.
“Unai Emery’s side must do without Alexandre Lacazette who was red-carded out in Belarus, but they have enough quality to qualify for the last 16 although the lack of an away goal makes things more difficult than it should have been.”
Arsenal will then switch their attentions back to the Premier League and their home clash against Southampton on Sunday afternoon.
The Gunners are currently fifth in the Premier League table as they chase Champions League qualification for next season.
