Patrick Kluivert offers Chelsea FC advice about Maurizio Sarri
The Dutch legend believes Chelsea FC should be patient with Maurizio Sarri despite their humiliation at The Etihad
Patrick Kluivert believes Maurizio Sarri needs more time at Chelsea FC.
The former Napoli boss is facing an uncertain future at the west London side after a difficult run of results in recent months.
Chelsea FC suffered a shock loss in the Premier League earlier this month when Bournemouth eased to a resounding 4-0 victory over Sarri’s side.
The Blues responded with a 5-0 win against Huddersfield Town thanks to goals from Gonzalo Higuain, Eden Hazard and Willian.
However, the west London side showed their fragility at The Etihad on Sunday after Manchester City were comprehensive 6-0 winners against Chelsea FC.
Sarri’s side started the Premier League weekend in fourth place but Chelsea FC are currently in sixth spot after their heaviest defeat in 28 years.
Former FC Barcelona and Newcastle striker Kluivert believes Sarri does have a future at Stamford Bridge.
“First of all, the players need to look at themselves – it is a team effort, they are really lacking in team spirit,” Kluivert told Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.
“You cannot give all the blame to the coach. It is a matter of results, and this result against City was a disaster.
“You have to look at the players and put them in the right position. If they do not fit into the system you want to play, you have to change the system.
“If you look at these players individually, I would love to work with these players and give them the opportunity to play in the position where they need to play. I think that he needs more time. It is not easy.”
Chelsea FC are two points adrift of fourth-placed Manchester United in the Premier League table to cast double on their chances of securing a return to the Champions League next term.
The Blues still have to face Liverpool FC, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in the final months of the Premier League campaign.
Sarri’s side are facing a vital week in the Italian’s fledging reign ahead of a clash against Malmo in the Europa League before a home clash against Manchester United in the FA Cup fifth round.
Chelsea FC will take on Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley on Sunday 24 February.
