Alan Shearer slams Chelsea FC and issues top-four warning
Alan Shearer has a warning for Chelsea FC after their surprise defeat by Bournemouth
Alan Shearer has labelled Chelsea FC’s 4-0 loss to Bournemouth on Wednesday night as “embarrassing” and has warned the Blues that they could miss out on a top-four finish this season if they do not improve.
The west London side suffered a surprise defeat at the Vitality Stadium as they suffered a significant blow to their hopes of securing Champions League qualification for next season.
That result allowed Arsenal to move above their London rivals and into fourth spot in the table thanks to their superior goal difference, with the race for a top-four finish in the Premier League now hotting up.
Chelsea FC have been in stuttering form in recent weeks and they have only won two of their last five games in the Premier League, losing their last two outings in the top flight.
And former England star Shearer has warned that the Blues must look to improve their performances if they are to have any hope of finishing in the top four this season.
Speaking on Match of the Day on Wednesday night, Shearer said: “That was an embarrassing defeat for Chelsea tonight and an embarrassing performance.
“When your backs are against the walls and you are looking for something from your team to give you something, it just wasn’t there.
“And Sarri looked at his team again tonight for the second successive league game and he has come out again tonight and said he is struggling to motivate his players – well that is his job to motivate them.
“He has now got his man in, [Gonzalo] Higuain, so it now has to improve and now they find themselves outside the top four so it has got to improve massively.”
Chelsea FC will look to bounce back to winning ways when they host Huddersfield Town in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.
