Ander Herrera has claimed that Manchester United “knew” how to stop Chelsea FC after he helped to fire the Red Devils past the Blues and into the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Herrera scored the opening goal for the Red Devils when he headed in Paul Pogba’s cross to give the visitors the lead in the fifth-round clash on Monday night.

And Pogba made it 2-0 shortly before half-time with a header of his own as Manchester United bounced back from their 2-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain last week.

Chelsea FC boss Maurizio Sarri has found himself under serious pressure in recent weeks following his side’s dip in form.

The Blues lost 6-0 to Manchester City in the Premier League to dent their top-four hopes and Monday’s defeat will only serve to heighten the pressure on Sarri.

Speaking to BBC Sport after Monday’s win, Herrera outlined what he thought were the keys for Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.

Herrera said: “They have a fantastic team. We had to fight until the end.

“We knew how to play them. I played today a more offensive role because we knew they struggle in that side of the pitch.

“But I think fantastic game. When you play with these kind of players you can make that type of run and you know you’re going to get the ball.”

Manchester United will now turn their attentions towards preparing for their crunch Premier League clash against Liverpool FC at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Devils will travel to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup quarter-finals after the draw was made on Monday.
