Michael Owen states his prediction for Chelsea FC v Man City cup final
Michael Owen looks ahead to the League Cup final between Chelsea FC and Manchester City
Michael Owen is backing Manchester City to beat Chelsea FC to League Cup glory in Sunday’s final at Wembley.
The Blues head into the game looking to bounce back from their recent dip in form under new boss Maurizio Sarri.
The west London side have dropped down into sixth place in the Premier League table after they were thrashed 6-0 by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side earlier this month.
Chelsea FC were also dumped out of the FA Cup on Monday night when they suffered a 2-0 loss to Manchester United in the fifth round at Stamford Bridge.
The pressure is well and truly on Sarri as he looks to turn around his side’s stuttering form from recent weeks.
Manchester City head into the game fresh from their impressive 3-2 comeback win over Schalke in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
And former Liverpool FC striker Owen is tipping Manchester City to win the final at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.
Writing in his column for BetVictor, Owen said: “Ahead of the Europa League second-leg tie with Malmo, Chelsea have lost half of their last 10 games in all competitions.
“They had previously lost five of their last 41 games and this is a massive game for all at the club, but especially Maurizio Sarri, whose rigid inflexible tactics look almost old-fashioned compared to many of the top sides and their leading coaches.
“Chelsea have beaten City already this season 2-0 at Stamford Bridge but they were outclassed in the Community Shield in the season curtain-raiser at Wembley and suffered a humiliating 6-0 loss at the Etihad earlier in the month.
“I expect to see Chelsea raise their game back at Wembley and make it a final to remember, but I still expect City to run out winners.”
Chelsea FC are aiming to win their first major trophy since Sarri was appointed as the club’s manager back in July last year.
However, the Blues have struggled for consistent form of late and have lost three of their last four Premier League games.
