Michael Owen states his prediction for Chelsea FC v Tottenham
The Liverpool FC legend is tipping Chelsea FC and Tottenham Hotpsur to settle for a draw at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night
Michael Owen is backing Chelsea FC and Tottenham Hotspur to play out a draw in Wednesday night’s London derby at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues will be looking to make a swift return to winning ways after the disappointment of the Carabao Cup final on Sunday evening.
Chelsea FC lost 4-3 to Manchester City on penalties, although the big talking point was Kepa Arrizabalaga’s apparent refusal to be substituted in the final minutes of extra time.
Spurs lost 2-1 to Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday despite England international Harry Kane returning from injury to get on the score-sheet.
Chelsea FC are in sixth place and three points adrift of Arsenal, who occupy the final Champions League qualification spot with 11 games to go.
Former Liverpool FC striker Owen is backing Chelsea FC and Tottenham to share the spoils at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
“Chelsea lost little in defeat in the League Cup Final on Sunday although the game will always be remembered for Chelsea keeper Kepa, seemingly, refusing to be substituted ahead of the penalty shootout,” Owen told BetVictor.
“The Blues have only lost one of their last 32 home games against Spurs in all competitions although that sole defeat came in the corresponding fixture last season.
“Spurs’ defeat at Turf Moor on Saturday was a huge blow to their title aspirations, but they have won their last couple of Premier LEague games against Chelsea and are looking to do the double over their West London rivals for the first time since the 1970-71 season.
“It promises to be a feisty, but hugely entertaining London derby and I feel it will end in stalemate.”
Chelsea FC finished in fifth place in the Premier League table in Antonio Conte’s final season in charge.
Tottenham are in third spot in the top flight but six points adrift of Premier League leaders Liverpool FC.
The north London outfit were 3-0 winners against Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 clash earlier this month.
Chelsea FC edged to a narrow win over Malmo in the Europa League round of 32.
