Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gives Marcus Rashford update ahead of Crystal Palace v Man United
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Marcus Rashford is a doubt for Man United's trip to Crystal Palace
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that Marcus Rashford is a doubt for Manchester United’s trip to Crystal Palace on Wednesday night in the Premier League.
Rashford played for the full 90 minutes during the Red Devils’ goalless draw with Liverpool FC in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The England striker played for the whole game despite seeming to pick up a knock as Manchester United had made all three of their substitutions in the first half at Old Trafford.
Ander Herrera, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard all went off injured before the break as the two bitter rivals shared the points at Old Trafford this weekend.
And interim Manchester United boss Solskjaer has now revealed that Rashford is likely to miss the club’s clash against Palace in London this week.
Speaking at his post-match news conference on Sunday, Solskjaer said of Rashford: “If he plays, I will be surprised.
“Rashford was kicked. He did his ankle straight away.We should have taken Rashford off as well but we couldn’t.
“He was… you can’t say targeted but you can say there were quite a few fouls on him, definitely. Normally you would take him off after five minutes. When he went straight through his ankle blew up.
“He wanted to run it off, then Juan [Mata] and Ander [Herrera] came off so we couldn’t take the risk taking him off. Hopefully he has not damaged himself too much.
“We played with 10 and a half men,” he added. “The fans made up for it and Rashford’s attitude made up for it also.”
He added: “I have never seen the likes of this before. Three hamstrings in the first half?”
Manchester United’s draw with Liverpool FC caused them to drop down into fifth place in the Premier League table, with Arsenal moving into fourth and a point ahead of them.
The Red Devils will host Southampton at Old Trafford in their next Premier League game this weekend after their trip to Selhurst Park in midweek.
