Joe Cole talks up Chelsea FC under Maurizio Sarri
Joe Cole reflects on Chelsea FC's win over Malmo in the Europa League on Thursday night
Joe Cole is convinced that Chelsea FC could be on course for a strong end to the season after their Europa League win at Malmo on Thursday night.
The Blues headed into the game under intense pressure after they slipped to a humiliating 6-0 loss to Manchester City in the Premier League at The Etihad on Sunday.
Goals from Ross Barkley and Olivier Giroud handed the west London side the advantage ahead of the return leg of the last 32 tie at Stamford Bridge next week.
Chelsea FC will now turn their attentions towards their crunch FA Cup fifth-round clash against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Monday night.
In the broader picture, the Blues will be keen on making sure that they bounce back in the Premier League as they look to try and finish in the top four this season.
And former Blues star Cole seems to think that the response from Sarri’s side on Thursday night shows that they have the potential to enjoy a strong end to the campaign.
Speaking to BT Sport after Thursday’s game, Cole said: “The response was excellent, I think Sarri’s put his marker down, ‘I’m going this way, we’re sticking with my philosophy’ and the lads bought into it.
“I don’t think there’s much difference between the Chelsea we saw tonight and the Chelsea of the first two months of the season. Maybe they ran into a very good Bournemouth team and a Manchester City team on immense form, so it inflates things.
“It was a massive result for Sarri. If the lads continue with that kind of intensity then the results could flow, they’ve got a cup final to look forward to in a few weeks, the picture could be very different come the end of the month.”
Chelsea FC are currently sixth in the Premier League as they look to try and break back into the top four this season.
