The Merseyside outfit were looking to make a much-needed return to winning ways following successive 1-1 stalemates with Leicester City and West Ham United.
Sadio Mane scored in both of those draws and the Senegal international broke the deadlock in his third successive Premier League game thanks to a close-range header.
While there was a hint of offside for Mane’s opener, there was no doubt about the validity of Wijnaldum’s superb goal after the Netherlands international collected Andy Robertson’s pass and lifted his finish over Artur Boruc with the outside of his foot.
Liverpool FC put the result beyond doubt thanks to Mohamed Salah’s 17th goal of the Premier League season after a superb move involving Naby Keita and Roberto Firmino.
Former Liverpool FC midfielder Ince spoke in glowing terms about Wijnaldum’s goal after his sensational finish in the first half.
“It’s brilliant from Wijnaldum, a wonderful finish,” Ince told BBC Sport.
“It’s game over, finished, done.”
Ex-Manchester City midfielder Michael Brown, who was on commentary for BBC Radio 5 Live at Anfield, hailed Wijnaldum’s amazing goal that stretched the home side’s advantage.
“It was pure class,” Brown said. “It is about the run for me, Georginio Wijnaldum has made three or four of those, and he gets his reward. He looks at the goalkeeper and just dinks it over him.
“He deserved that, with a deft finish over the goalkeeper, amazing from a midfielder after that run.”
Liverpool FC moved back into first place in the Premier League table thanks to their 3-0 win over Bournemouth ahead of Manchester City’s home clash against Chelsea FC on Sunday.
