Gary Lineker reacts to Sadio Mane’s display in Liverpool FC’s 5-0 win over Watford
The Spurs legend singled out Sadio Mane and Trent Alexander-Arnold for praise on Twitter after Liverpool FC's 5-0 win
Gary Lineker praised Sadio Mane’s emphatic finishing after Liverpool FC were 5-0 winners against Watford at Anfield on Wednesday night.
The Merseyside outfit were looking to return to winning ways following a frustrating 0-0 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford last weekend.
Mane endured a particularly poor performance against the 20-time English champions to prompt some criticism of the Senegal international.
Divock Origi started in the absence of injured Roberto Firmino for the visit of the Hornets but it was Mane who broke the deadlock in the ninth minute with a powerful header.
The former Southampton forward doubled his tally when he produced an audacious finish after another cross from Alexander-Arnold in the 20th minute.
Origi scored a rare goal when Belgium striker evaded three Watford players to place a finish past Ben Foster at the near post.
Virgil van Dijk sealed three points with two goals in three minutes when he guided successive headers past Ben Foster after crosses from Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson.
Former Spurs striker Lineker was quick to heap praise on Mane after the Senegal star was more clinical in front of goal on Wednesday night.
Lineker wrote on Twitter: “Little nerve-settling goal for @LFC by Mane. Brilliant cross from @trentaa98 emphatically headed home.”
Mane has scored 14 goals in 27 games in the Premier League this season to contribute to Liverpool FC’s title challenge.
The Reds are in first place and a point ahead of defending champions Manchester City.
Liverpool FC will make the short trip to Everton in the Merseyside derby on Sunday afternoon.
