Alisson sends message to Manuel Neuer ahead of Liverpool FC v Bayern Munich
The Liverpool FC goalkeeper is relishing the chance to face the Bayern Munich legend on Tuesday night
Alisson Becker is relishing his battle with Manuel Neuer ahead of Liverpool FC’s clash against Bayern Munich on Tuesday night.
The Brazil international will line up in goal for the Reds in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie at Anfield.
Alisson became the most expensive goalkeeper in the world when the South American shot stopper completed a £67m move to Liverpool FC from AS Roma last summer.
That transfer fee was eclipsed less than a week later when Kepa Arrizabalaga sealed a £73m switch to Chelsea FC from Athletic Bilbao.
The Liverpool FC number one has justified his price tag after keeping an impressive 14 clean sheets in his debut season in the Premier League.
Neuer has been rated as one of the best goalkeepers in Europe since his move to Bayern in 2011.
The Germany international has won six Bundesliga titles, the Champions League and the World Cup during his spell at the Allianz Arena.
Alisson insists he is ready to face off with one of the Champions League’s best-ever goalkeepers.
“We know they’re a really good, strong team,” Alisson told Premier League Productions, as quoted by Liverpool FC’s website.
“Jurgen knows more about that team than anyone. There’s a lot of quality – and a great defence.
“[Neuer] is a big reference for me. When we got them in the draw I was pleased knowing I’d be against him.”
Liverpool FC have the best defensive record in the Premier League this season after conceding 15 times in 26 games in the English top flight.
Bayern have struggled domestically this term and the defending champions are two points behind Borussia Dortmund.
