Andy Robertson: How Liverpool FC can beat Bayern Munich
The Liverpool FC star wants Jurgen Klopp's side to go "full throttle" against Bayern Munich on Tuesday night
Andy Robertson says Liverpool FC must go “full throttle” to beat Bayern Munich in their Champions League round of 16 clash.
Jurgen Klopp’s side will welcome the Bundesliga giants in the first leg at Anfield on Tuesday night as Liverpool FC look to reach the quarter-finals in successive seasons.
Liverpool FC have made giant strides forward since their Champions League run last season when the Merseyside outfit relied upon their attacking flair to reach the Kiev showpiece.
However, Klopp’s defence was unreliable and leaked goals before Liverpool FC lost 3-1 to Real Madrid in the Champions League final.
The Merseyside outfit have made vast improvements at the back this season thanks to the additions of Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk over the past 12 months.
Liverpool FC have the best defensive record in the Premier League after keeping 14 clean sheets and conceding 15 goals in 26 games.
However, Robertson believes the Champions League clash will be won by Liverpool FC going all out against the German club.
“Two massive games. When we landed in Marbella on Monday our full focus was on the Bayern Munich game,” Robertson told Liverpool FC’s website.
“We need to be full throttle for that game. They are such a good team and they have been the last six or seven years so we know what a tough task it will be.
“But we believe we can cause any teams problems and we have to be at our best.”
Liverpool FC were 3-2 winners against Bayern Munich in their last meeting in the Uefa Super Cup in 2001 under Gerard Houllier.
Both Bayern and Liverpool FC have won the Champions League five times.
The Bundesliga side’s most recent success came at Wembley when Bayern were 2-1 winners against Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund.
