Danny Murphy: What I really think about ‘brave’ Liverpool FC star
The Liverpool FC legend was impressed with Fabinho's performance in Saturday's 3-0 win over Bournemouth
Danny Murphy singled out Fabinho’s performance for special praise after his performance in Liverpool FC’s 3-0 win over Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.
The Brazil international started in a holding role in the middle of the park as the Merseyside outfit looked to make a return to winning ways.
Fabinho exerted his dominance as the summer signing protected the Liverpool FC defence but managed to release their forward players with some crisp passing.
The former Real Madrid player completed 53 passes throughout the Premier League clash to finish with a pass-completion rate of 88 per cent.
The South American star won four tackles and an aerial challenge to showcase his expertise in the holding role.
Liverpool FC eased to a 3-0 win courtesy of goals from Sadio Mane, Georginio Wijnaldum and Mohamed Salah at Anfield.
But former England international Murphy highlighted the performance of Fabinho rather than Liverpool FC’s goal-scorers after their 3-0 win.
“It was a superb performance from Fabinho at a time when there were nerves about,” Murphy told Match Of The Day.
“He was tenacious and calm. He was brave enough to play forward passes and not worry about losing the ball. He kept probing. He settled into the role really nicely.
“He is starting to show the confidence and calmness that Liverpool paid the money for. He broke up play. He has made that position his own if he can stay fit.”
Fabinho will have his work cut out in Liverpool FC’s next two games against Bayern Munich and Manchester United.
The Reds signed Fabinho in a £40m deal from Ligue 1 side AS Monaco in the 2018 summer transfer window.
Liverpool FC are looking to win their first Premier League title after finishing in second place in 2002, 2009 and 2014.
