BBC Sport pundit praises ‘brilliant’ Liverpool FC star
Garth Crooks praises Alisson Becker for his fine display in Liverpool FC's goalless draw with Man United
Garth Crooks has heaped praise on Alisson Becker for his performance in Liverpool FC’s goalless draw with Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday.
Alisson has been settling in well to life at Anfield following his move to the Merseyside outfit from AS Roma in the summer transfer window last year.
The goalkeeper kept another clean sheet on Sunday as he managed to help Jurgen Klopp’s side keep Manchester United at bay at Old Trafford as they earned another point in the Premier League title race.
Alisson has kept his 15 Premier League clean sheets this season, which is three more than any other goalkeeper.
And Crooks was particularly impressed by the Brazil international’s save to deny Jesse Lingard a clear goal at Old Trafford in Sunday’s clash.
Picking him as his goalkeeper for his Premier League team of the week, Crooks wrote in his BBC Sport column: “The save by Alisson as Jesse Lingard tried to take the ball around the Brazil international was a game changer at Old Trafford.
“Quite apart from anything else, I thought it was a certain goal. Would I have done exactly as Lingard did? Absolutely.
“Alisson was so alert to what the forward was about to do – and took the ball so cleanly – that there was no hint of a possible penalty.
“Liverpool went top of the table on Sunday all because of Alisson’s moment of sheer brilliance.”
Alisson will be expecting to feature for Liverpool FC when the Reds return to Premier League action on Wednesday night with a home clash against Watford at Anfield.
The Reds are currently one point clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table with 11 games left to play.
