Keita, Mane urge German striker to consider Liverpool FC move
Naby Keita and Sadio Mane believes RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner should consider Liverpool FC if the Germany international is ready for a move
Naby Keita and Sadio Mane have urged RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner to consider a move to Liverpool FC this summer.
The Reds pair are currently in Spain on a warm weather training camp with the rest of Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
Keita and Mane played key roles in their 3-0 win over Bournemouth at Anfield last weekend to return to make a return to winning ways.
Their African team-mate Mohamed Salah scored his 17th Premier League goal in the home win to remain at the top of the division’s goal-scoring charts.
While Salah has established himself as a prolific goal-scorer during his 18 months at Anfield, the Egypt international isn’t an out-and-out striker.
RB Leipzig’s Werner has been linked with a move to Liverpool FC since Jurgen Klopp took over the reins in October 2015.
Keita and Mane have both enjoyed stints at RB Salzburg in Austria, while the Guinea international spent two seasons alongside Werner at RB Leipzig before completing his £48m switch to Liverpool FC last summer.
Speaking to Sport Bild, as quoted by ESPN, about what he would advise Werner to do, Keita said:
“We played really well together at Leipzig, and he was one of my best mates. It’s clear: Should he move, then I ask Timo to join us here at Liverpool.”
Mane, who moved to Liverpool FC from Southampton in a £34m deal in 2016, added:
“I’d advise him to join Liverpool. I like his style of play. Very forceful, good finish, always giving it 100 percent. If he wants to join us, we’d welcome him to our team.
“When it was clear that Naby would join us, I often watched Leipzig matches. But to be honest: It was dreadful for me at the start. Naby saw quite a few red cards.
“I then asked Kevin Kampl, my friend from our time at RB Salzburg, why Naby always got sent off. He didn’t know. Naby missed some important games and I could watch other players more closely. And Timo stood out.”
Liverpool FC will take on RB Leipzig’s domestic rivals Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 clash next Tuesday.
