Manuel Neuer looks ahead to Liverpool FC v Bayern Munich
Manuel Neuer looks ahead to Liverpool FC's clash with Bayern Munich on Tuesday night
Manuel Neuer has insisted that he and his Bayern Munich team-mates are “happy” to play the first leg of their Champions League clash against Liverpool FC at Anfield.
The Merseyside outfit are preparing to welcome the Bundesliga side to their stadium on Tuesday night as they look to try and take a step closer towards reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Liverpool FC have had the weekend off to prepare for Tuesday’s game as they look to try and win their first major trophy since Jurgen Klopp’s appointment back in 2015.
The Reds have won their last five home Champions League games and will be in confident mood heading into Tuesday night’s showdown.
Bayern goalkeeper Neuer, who is expected to be fit for the clash, says he and his team-mates are relishing the prospect of playing at one of European football’s most famous stadiums.
Speaking in an interview quoted by the Daily Mirror, Neuer said: “It’s the first game for me at Anfield. I’m looking forward to playing there.
“We have heard a lot about the atmosphere in the stadium – everyone who watches football knows it’s special – and I think they will be two great games.
“For us, the Champions League is very important. It is a knockout tie, two finals. We are happy to play in their stadium.
“Hopefully, it will be great night for us. But it depends on the result, of course.”
Liverpool FC have won their last six home games against German clubs, since a 1981 stalemate against Bayern.
Bayern, meanwhile, are unbeaten in their last eight European away games, scoring at least two goals in every one.
