Paul Merson is backing Liverpool FC to reclaim top spot in the Premier League with a 2-0 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday at Anfield.

The Reds have suffered something of a small blip in form in recent days and that has allowed Manchester City to move above them into first place in the table – although the Citizens have played a game more than Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Liverpool FC are currently second in the table and level on points with table-toppers Manchester City heading into this weekend’s round of games.

The Merseyside outfit have only won two of their last five games in the Premier League to allow Manchester City to leapfrog them in the table.

However, the Reds have the chance to move back above the Citizens on Saturday when they face Bournemouth before Pep Guardiola’s men host Chelsea FC at The Etihad on Sunday.

And former Arsenal star Merson is backing the Reds to claim all three points in front of their home fans this weekend.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Merson said: “Bournemouth are poor away from home and I see Liverpool winning this game, but it is also a dangerous game for them the way the visitors play.

“They are a little bit like Crystal Palace, they will hit you on the break and are quick, and Liverpool struggle with that.

“And with all the nerves that are going on now, the first 20 minutes will be very, very important. So, a big game…”

Liverpool FC will take on Bayern Munich in the last 16 of the Champions League later this month.

They will then return to Premier League action with a crunch clash against Manchester United on 24 February.
