Mark Lawrenson states his prediction for Man City v Arsenal
The Liverpool FC legend is tipping Manchester City to secure a resounding 2-0 win against Arsenal on Sunday
Mark Lawrenson believes Manchester City will return to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
The Gunners will make the long trip to Eastlands looking to inflict upon Manchester City successive Premier League defeats and bolster their top-four prospects.
Arsenal eased to a narrow 2-1 win against Cardiff City on Tuesday night to move level on points with Chelsea FC in the race to secure a Champions League spot.
The week got even better for the Gunners when Mauirizio Sarri’s side lost 4-0 to Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Wednesday to hoist Arsenal into fourth place.
Manchester City, meanwhile, suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat by Newcastle United mid-week despite Sergio Aguero giving the visitors an early lead.
The Citizens were fortunate that Liverpool FC could only muster a 1-1 draw with Leicester that saw the Reds extend their lead at the top to five points.
Manchester City have scored eight goals without reply in their last three games against Arsenal and will be hoping to record a fourth successive win against the Gunners on Sunday.
Former Liverpool FC defender Lawrenson is backing Manchester City to record a 2-0 win against Unai Emery’s men at the Etihad Stadium.
“We know the problem with Arsenal is that, while they can score goals, they struggle to stop them,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
“Away from home, they haven’t kept a clean sheet in the league all season.
“So that is why I am going to go with City to bounce back here. Yes, their whole team was flat against Newcastle on Tuesday but in my experience that just makes it easier to lift them collectively.
“Every team puts in poor performances sometimes, and nobody really knows why, but I don’t think it is a sign that City are about to struggle.”
Arsenal lost 2-0 to the defending champions in the opening round of Premier League fixtures in August.
