Michael Owen is backing Manchester City to get their title challenge back on track with a comfortable win against Arsenal on Sunday.

The Citizens slumped to a surprise 2-1 loss to relegation candidates Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Tuesday night.

Sergio Aguero broke the deadlock early in the Premier League clash before the Argentina international had a second goal ruled out.

Newcastle levelled through Salomon Rondon before Scotland international Matt Ritchie netted the winner from the penalty spot.

Pep Guardiola’s side have now lost to Chelsea FC, Crystal Palace, Leicester City and Newcastle in the Premier League this season.

Arsenal moved level on points with fourth-placed Chelsea FC on Tuesday night thanks to a 2-1 win over Cardiff City at The Emirates.

Remarkably, the Gunners didn’t even have to kick a ball as they were hoisted into the top four after Chelsea FC lost 4-0 at Bournemouth.

However, BT Sport pundit Owen is confident Manchester City won’t struggle against Arsenal at The Etihad on Sunday.

“Strange as it seems I wonder if City scored too early against Newcastle in midweek?” Owen told BetVictor.

“Whatever the reason for their lethargic almost complacent performance they never brought their ‘A-game’ to St James’ Park although that shouldn’t take anything away from a terrific win for the Magpies.

“City have now lost three league games having taken the lead and, when the dust has settled on the 2018-19 Premier League season, that might just be the difference as to whether they retain their title or not.”

“Arsenal were no match for City on the opening day of the season and I can’t see them stopping a City side who will have been wounded by their north-east reverse.”

Arsenal lost 2-0 to Manchester City in their Premier League meeting at The Emirates in the opening game of the campaign.

The Citizens have won their last three games against Arsenal, scoring eight goals without reply.

Arsenal’s most-recent win against Manchester City came in the FA Cup semi-finals in 2017.
