Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gives latest Man United injury update ahead of Chelsea FC clash
The Man United interim manager provides a fitness update on Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has cast doubt on Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial featuring in Manchester United’s next two games.
The England international was substituted at the end of the first half in their 2-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night.
Martial was replaced at half-time with a groin problem as Manchester United slumped to their first loss under Solskjaer in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash.
Manchester United will make the trip to the English capital on Monday night to take on bitter rivals Chelsea FC in the FA Cup fifth round at Stamford Bridge.
The Red Devils will return to Premier League action with a home clash against Premier League title challengers Liverpool FC on Sunday 24 February.
Speaking to Manchester United’s website about the injury status of Lingard and Martial, Solskjaer ruled the pair out of contention for their next two fixtures:
“I don’t think we will see them [Lingard and Martial] in the next two games.
“Let’s hope they heal quickly, but it looks like they might be out for two or three weeks.”
“Again, Antonio [Valencia] is out, Matteo [Darmian] is out, but apart from that we are good to go.”
Manchester United are in fourth place in the Premier League table after winning eight of their opening nine top-flight fixtures under Solskjaer.
The Red Devils are a point ahead of Arsenal and Chelsea FC in the race to secure the final Champions League qualification spot.
Manchester United haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 following a period of regression since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.
