Arsene Wenger gives verdict on Alexis Sanchez at Man United
The former Arsenal manager discusses Alexis Sanchez's form at Manchester United on Tuesday night
Alexis Sanchez can have no complaints about losing his place in the Manchester United team, according to Arsene Wenger.
The Chile international started the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 clash against Paris Saint-Germain on the bench on Tuesday night.
Sanchez earned a reprieve at half-time when Jesse Lingard was forced off in added time at the end of the first half.
The 30-year-old was unable to have an impact on the Champions League clash as 10-man Manchester United lost 2-0 to PSG.
Sanchez had 25 touches during his first-leg cameo but Manchester United’s best-paid player was unable to have an influence on the round of 16 tie.
The South American has scored one goal and has made three assists in eight starts and nine substitute appearances in all competitions this term.
Former Arsenal manager Wenger gave his honest verdict on Sanchez’s form at Manchester United.
“He [Sanchez] has lost his position. He plays in the same position as Martial,” Wenger told beIN Sports.
“And today, who would dispute that Martial is indispensable for Manchester United?
“That’s fair competition in my opinion.”
Wenger was in charge of Arsenal when the north London side sanctioned Sanchez’s move to Manchester United in the 2018 January transfer window.
Sanchez moved to Manchester United in a swap deal from Arsenal as Henrikh Mkhitaryan moved in the opposite direction.
Manchester United are in fourth place in the Premier League table ahead of Arsenal and Chelsea FC in the race to secure the final Champions League spot.
