Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sends message to Man United fans about Fred
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opens up about Fred at Manchester United this season
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has insisted that Fred will get his chance to impress at Manchester United.
The midfielder has found his playing time to be very limited since his move to Old Trafford from Shakhtar Donetsk on a five-year contract last summer.
The Brazilian has only started seven Premier League games so far this term and he has failed to hold down a regular spot in the first team since his arrival at Old Trafford.
However, interim boss Solskjaer has insisted that the 25-year-old will be given his chance to impress, saying that it is normal for a player to need time to adapt to life in the Premier League.
Speaking in an interview quoted by Sky Sports ahead of Wednesday’s game against Crystal Palace, Solskjaer said: “[Fred needs to] play well when he gets the chance, keeping training, keep working as he does.
“We have had a midfield three of [Ander] Herrera, [Paul] Pogba and [Nemanja] Matic and they have played really well together.
“It is not like we have been bogged down with too many games. Scott McTominay was the obvious choice against Liverpool because he was an academy kid – we had five academy kids at one point on the pitch. He knows what it means.
“You have to look at the time it needs to settle. You look at Juan [Sebastian Veron] – he is one of the best players that I played with – and it took him time to settle. And I am sure that when given the chance and a run in the team Fred will grab the opportunity.
“Fred will get his chances.”
Manchester United will return to Premier League action on Saturday when they host Southampton in the top flight at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils will then switch their focus back towards Champions League affairs and the return leg of their last 16 clash against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night in the French capital.
Solskjaer’s side were beaten 2-0 in the first leg earlier this month to leave the Red Devils with it all to do to overturn the tie.
