Gary Lineker has his say on Man United's 2-0 loss to PSG in the last 16 of the Champions League at Old Trafford
Gary Lineker took to social media to offer his reaction to Manchester United’s 2-0 defeat by Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16 of the Champions League on Tuesday night.
The Red Devils headed into the game full of confidence after having won 10 of their 11 games under interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer since his appointment as Jose Mourinho’s successor back in December.
However, after the Premier League outfit slumped to a disappointing loss to the Ligue 1 champions to damage their hopes of reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
After a goalless first half, Presnel Kimpembe gave the visitors the lead when he volleyed home from Angel Di Maria’s corner in the 53rd minute.
Kylian Mbappe then made it 2-0 in the 60th minute when his searing pace allowed him to burst into the box and tap home Di Maria’s cross.
Lineker was on duty for BT Sport for Tuesday night’s game, and he took to social media to offer his philosophical take on the situation after the visitors went 2-0 up.
Lineker tweeted: “All honeymoons have to end sometime.”
Reacting to Mbappe’s goal, he added in a separate tweet: “Crikey, watch the pace of Mbappe attacking the 6 yard box. 😳”
Manchester United will now have to dust themselves down as they prepare for their FA Cup sixth-round trip to Chelsea FC on Monday night.
The Red Devils currently find themselves fourth place in the Premier League table.
