Andy Cole makes prediction about Man United summer transfers
The former Man United striker expects significant investment in the squad this summer
Andy Cole has backed Manchester United to go big in the summer transfer market to close the gap on their title rivals Liverpool FC and Manchester City.
The Red Devils have enjoyed a rebirth under interim Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after his appointment in December.
The Norwegian coach took over the reins at Old Trafford with Manchester United in sixth spot and 11 points adrift of the top four.
Manchester United are putting fourth-placed Chelsea FC under pressure following a brilliant run of seven successive Premier League games without defeat.
Solskjaer missed out on the chance to become the first Manchester United manager to win his opening seven league games in charge at Old Trafford after a 2-2 draw with Burnley last week.
The Red Devils are still a long way behind Premier League leaders Liverpool FC to highlight the gap between the two rivals.
Former Manchester United striker Cole believes the Red Devils will invest in new playing staff in the summer transfer window in an attempt to haul in Liverpool FC and Manchester City.
“They will definitely have a go in the summer,” Cole told Sky Sports.
“The gap is growing and the only way you can close the gap is buying players who will improve the team and the squad.
“They will have a go but in what positions, we will have to wait and see.”
Manchester United will take on Ligue 1 holders Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League round of 16 later in February.
The Red Devils have only managed to secure a top-four finish on two occasions since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.
