Man United face competition from Napoli for Serie A striker – report
Manchester United target Mauro Icardi has been offered the chance to become the second-best paid player in Serie A, according to a report
Napoli have offered Mauro Icardi a contract as the Serie A side look to beat Chelsea FC and Manchester United to the striker’s signature, according to a report in Italy.
Italian media outlet Tuttomercatoweb, as quoted by the Daily Mirror, is reporting that Napoli have presented Icardi with an €11m contract.
The Inter Milan captain would become the second-best paid player in the Italian top flight should a move to Napoli go through.
The same article states that Premier League duo Chelsea FC and Manchester United are thought to be interested in a swoop to sign the 26-year-old.
According to the same story, the English pair will also have to see off competition from Champions League holders Real Madrid and Serie A champions Juventus.
Icardi has fallen out with the Inter Milan hierarchy to fuel speculation surrounding his future at the San Siro outfit.
The Argentina international has scored 122 goals in 240 games in all competitions over the past five and a half seasons at Inter Milan.
Icardi moved to Inter from Sampdoria in a €6.5m transfer deal at the end of the 2012-13 campaign.
For all of his goals with the Nerazzurri, Icardi is still waiting to get his hands on some silverware after scooping numerous personal awards during his spell at the San Siro.
