Paul Merson states his prediction for Man United v Liverpool FC
The Arsenal legend is tipping Manchester United to become the second team to beat Liverpool FC this season
Paul Merson believes Manchester United will ease to a narrow 2-1 win against Liverpool FC at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
The Merseyside outfit will make the short trip to their bitter rivals looking to restore their lead at the top of the Premier League table.
Manchester City are sitting in first place thanks to their superior goal difference, but the Citizens have played one game more than Liverpool FC.
The Reds lost 2-1 to Manchester United last season after goals from Marcus Rashford in the 14th and 24th minute sealed a home win.
Jurgen Klopp’s side were held to a goalless draw with Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 clash last week.
Manchester United, meanwhile, were 2-0 winners against Chelsea FC at Stamford Bridge in the FA Cup fifth round on Monday night.
Former Arsenal midfielder Merson is tipping Manchester United to secure a narrow 2-1 win against Liverpool FC at Old Trafford on Sunday.
“I look at when United got beaten by Paris Saint-Germain and I thought they were a million miles off; that’s when you judge managers. When you are winning every week, it’s a doddle, but it’s when you get beaten, it’s how you bounce back. I thought they were brilliant in the FA Cup at Chelsea in the way they played,” Merson told Sky Sports.
Merson added: “If Liverpool get anything from this game, I think they have had a result. I am not saying that because I think Man United are a better team, but I think the pendulum has swung.
“You have a team that is very confident and a team that is very nervous and are snatching at chances. Look at Liverpool’s game against Bayern Munich – two months ago, they would have scored two or three of those chances.
“I think United will have a go. They are not a team under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that will sit back. They will take the game to Liverpool, and I think the nerves of Liverpool will be too much.”
Manchester United can become just the second team to beat Liverpool FC in the Premier League this season.
The Citizens ended the Merseyside outfit’s unbeaten start to the season at The Etihad in January after a 2-1 victory over their title challengers.
Liverpool FC have never won the Premier League title.
