Paul Ince delivers scathing verdict on Alexis Sanchez at Man United
The Man United legend doesn't hold back in his assessment of Alexis Sanchez's performances at Old Trafford
Paul Ince has branded Manchester United forward Alexis Sanchez “a disgrace” after his performance in Tuesday night’s 2-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain.
The Chile international replaced Jesse Lingard at the end of the first half after Manchester United interim manager named Sanchez on the bench.
PSG eased to a 2-0 win in the first leg of the last-16 clash thanks to goals from Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe in the second half at Old Trafford.
Sanchez failed to register a shot on target or create a chance in the second half in a poor cameo performance from the club’s best-paid player.
The 30-year-old has been a big disappointment since his move to Manchester United in a swap deal from Arsenal in the 2018 January transfer window.
Sanchez has scored one goal in six starts and eight substitute appearances for the 20-time English champions this term.
Former Manchester United midfielder Ince slammed Sanchez’s woeful performance in the Champions League in midweek.
“The way Alexis Sanchez is playing at the moment is nothing short of a disgrace,” Ince told Paddy Power.
“His performances are a joke for the wage he gets. I wouldn’t begrudge his high wage, either, if I thought that he was truly putting his all in and playing well, but when you give someone that kind of money you expect a lot more. The fans deserve better, Ole deserves better, and so do the rest of his team.”
Ince added: “Maybe he has the hump because he’s not in the starting XI, but that’s hardly a surprise! He’s been hopeless, completely all over the place.
“There has to be a decision made about his future at Old Trafford, because it’s not working. But this is the dilemma when you keep sacking managers, players the previous boss bought in on high wages are impossible to get rid of – so you have to try and make them work in your team.
“He’s a million miles away from being at his best, he looks like a completely different player.”
Sanchez moved to Manchester United in a swap deal as Armenia international Henrikh Mkhitaryan completed a switch to Arsenal.
The Chile star established himself as one of the leading forwards in the Premier League during his three and a half seasons at the north London side.
However, Sanchez has scored just four Premier League in 12 months at Manchester United.
