Charlie Nicholas is backing Tottenham Hotspur and Borussia Dortmund to play out a 1-1 draw in their Champions League clash at Wembley on Wednesday night.

Spurs head into the game looking to take their impressive Premier League form into Europe as they bid to take a step closer towards reaching the Champions League quarter-finals.

The Lilywhites have been in solid form in the Premier League of late and have won their last four games on the spin to leave them in third place in the Premier League table and only five points behind second-placed Liverpool FC after 26 games.

Borussia Dortmund, meanwhile, are flying high at the top of the Bundesliga table but have drawn their last two games in the German top flight.

And former Arsenal star Nicholas is backing the two sides to play out a 1-1 draw at Wembley on Wednesday night ahead of the return leg in Dortmund on Tuesday 5 March.

Writing in his column for Sky Sports, Nicholas said: “Spurs are grinding results at the minute but doing the business without Harry Kane and Dele Alli.

“Heung-Min Son has to be in the potential list of six for Premier League player of the year. He is carrying Spurs through and his energy levels have been outstanding.

“This is a different Dortmund side though, and I still feel Spurs have a weakness at the back. Mauricio Pochettino has been chopping and changing too much in defence. Kane could be back for the return leg but the reality is this is another game of goals.

“Both teams will open up and attack well. Dortmund will not be as adventurous – they will sit in and counter-attack which will be dangerous for Spurs, and they will choke them and try to boss midfield.”

Tottenham will have this weekend off before they return to Premier League action with a trip to Burnley on Sunday 23 February.

They will then take on London rivals Chelsea FC and Arsenal in back to back games in the top flight.
