Mark Lawrenson is backing Liverpool FC to secure a 2-0 win against West Ham on Monday night to protect their lead at the top of the Premier League table.

The Reds were unable to significantly extend their advantage over Manchester City mid-week despite the Citizens suffering a 2-1 loss to Newcastle United at St James’ Park.

Pep Guardiola’s side squandered a first-half lead to lose for the fourth time this season and present Liverpool FC with the chance to move seven points clear.

The Merseyside outfit broke the deadlock inside three minutes through Sadio Mane but the Reds couldn’t double their lead and Harry Maguire levelled on the stroke of half-time to help Leicester secure a 1-1 draw at Anfield.

Liverpool FC have scored an impressive four times in their last two visits to the London Stadium to secure six points against West Ham.

Furthermore, the Reds have won their last four goals against the east London side in all competitions and have scored 16 times during that run to emphasis their recent dominance of this fixture.

Former Liverpool FC defender Lawrenson is backing the Reds to beat West Ham and protect their lead over defending champions Manchester City.

“Liverpool have won 4-0 and 4-1 on their previous two visits to London Stadium and this might turn out to be exactly the game they need right now,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.

“I think it easier for the Reds to play away from Anfield because of the massive expectancy when they are at home.

“Away from home, they can just get on with it and, generally, teams are a little bit more open which obviously suits the way Liverpool play as well.

“West Ham are a prime example of that because, good or bad, they are not likely to shut up shop on Monday.

“If Hammers striker Marko Arnautovic was fit and firing then I would look at the game a little bit differently but if he is absent with his foot injury then I only see one outcome.”

Liverpool FC are looking to win the Premier League for the first time.

Jurgen Klopp is also hoping to get his hands on his first trophy as Reds boss.
