Mesut Ozil hailed Arsenal’s “five-star performance” after Wednesday night’s 5-1 win against Bournemouth.

The retired Germany international was handed a rare start in the Premier League for the visit of the Cherries.

Ozil was named in Unai Emery’s starting line up for just the third time so far this year.

The Arsenal manager’s decision to place his faith in the World Cup winner paid dividends as Ozil produced an influential performance.

Ozil broke the deadlock in the fourth minute to settle nerves at The Emirates thanks to Sead Kolasinac’s assist.

The German midfielder turned provider in the 27th minute when he teed up Henrikh Mkhitaryan to double the home side’s lead.

The 30-year-old will be hoping that his mid-week performance is enough to earn Ozil a starting spot for the trip to Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.

Arsenal can move to within a point of Mauricio Pochettino’s side with a win at Wembley.

Ozil took to Instagram to send a message to Arsenal supporters after their 5-1 rout of Bournemouth.

He wrote: “#YaGunnersYa 😎💥 Five-Star team performance tonight! Happy for everyone at the club and for all the fans! 🤙🏼#WeAreTheArsenal #M1Ö #COYG @arsenal”

Goals from Ozil, Mkhitaryan, Alexandre Lacazette, Laurent Koscielny and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sealed a 5-0 win over Bournemouth.

Arsenal have won their last three Premier League games since their 3-1 loss to Manchester City earlier this month.

The Gunners are in fourth spot and a point ahead of Manchester United in the race to secure a Champions League spot.
