Gary Lineker took to social media to reveal his delight at seeing English clubs do so well in Europe this season as both Arsenal and Chelsea FC reached the Europa League quarter-finals.

The Blues claimed a dominant 5-0 win over Dynamo Kiev in the Europa League last 16 second leg on Thursday night as they sealed an 8-0 aggregate win to progress to the last eight.

And Arsenal were in impressive form as they came from 3-1 down on aggregate to beat Rennes 3-0 at The Emirates on Thursday night to also seal their spot in the next round.

Both Manchester clubs, Liverpool FC and Tottenham Hotspur are also through to the Champions League quarter-finals.

And England legend Lineker has clearly been pleased to see both Chelsea FC and Arsenal book their place in the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

Lineker wrote on Twitter on Thursday night: “Chelsea bang in 5. Arsenal are already 2 up. English clubs are smashing it this season. 👏👏.”

Arsenal will not return to Premier League action until after the international break, when they host Newcastle United in the top flight on Monday 1 April.

Chelsea FC, meanwhile, will take on Everton in the Premier League at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon as they look to try and break back into the top four this season, with Maurizio Sarri’s men currently sixth.
