Unai Emery sends message to Tottenham ahead of Arsenal showdown
Unai Emery looks ahead to Arsenal's trip to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday lunchtime
Unai Emery has admitted that his Arsenal side have a “big motivation” to beat Tottenham Hotspur when they travel to Wembley on Saturday lunchtime.
The Gunners kept themselves in fourth place in the Premier League table with an impressive 5-1 win over Bournemouth in front of their home fans on Wednesday night.
Goals from Mesut Ozil, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Laurent Koscielny, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette handed the Gunners the three points as they kept up their push for Champions League qualification.
Tottenham, meanwhile, slumped to a disappointing 2-0 loss to Chelsea FC in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
Arsenal know that victory over Tottenham on Saturday would leave them just one point behind their bitter north London rivals in the table.
And Emery has admitted that will serve as a big motivation for his side heading into their trip to Wembley.
Speaking at his post-match news conference on Wednesday night, Emery said: “It is a big motivation, but we were speaking and we need to take the opportunity like today, these three points.
“After we can have and get an opportunity like Saturday. It’s one team that, at the moment, are better than us in the table.
“I think it is very difficult there, to win, but it is a good test, a great test and a positive test.”
Arsenal are currently fourth in the table as they chase Champions League qualification in Emery’s first season in charge.
The Gunners ended up in sixth place in the table and without a trophy under Arsene Wenger last term.
