Arsenal enter race with Man United to sign 25-year-old – report
Arsenal are interested in a deal to sign Samuel Umtiti, who is also being linked with Man United, according to a report in Spain
Arsenal are set to rival Manchester United for the signature of FC Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti this summer, according to a report in Spain.
Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo, as quoted by Metro, is reporting that Arsenal are interested in a deal to sign the France international at the end of the season.
The same article states that FC Barcelona could see Umtiti in the summer to raise funds as the Catalan side look to complete a swoop for Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt.
According to the same story, Manchester United are already thought to be interested in the 25-year-old defender as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to improve their defence in the summer.
Mundo Deportivo go on to say that Arsenal are also weighing up a move to sign the World Cup winner to improve their options in central defence.
The report adds that Arsenal’s new director of football Raul Sanllehi could play a big role in any potential deal that sees Umtiti head to the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal will take on Newcastle United at The Emirates in their next Premier League game on Monday night.
Emery’s side are in pole position to finish in the Premier League’s top four as the Gunners start the weekend in fourth spot and two points ahead of Manchester United.
