Arsene Wenger predicts Arsenal v Napoli
Arsene Wenger looks ahead to Arsenal's clash with Napoli in the Europa League next month
Arsene Wenger is backing Arsenal to reach the Europa League semi-finals at the expense of Napoli next month.
The Gunners were pitted against the Serie A side after their 3-0 win over Rennes last week secured their place in the last eight of Europe’s second tier club competition.
Arsenal will be looking to continue their progress in the Europa League knowing that winning the competition is a potential route into next season’s Champions League.
The north London side will host Napoli on 11 April at The Emirates, before the return leg in Italy on 18 April.
Wenger has admitted that he is hoping that the Gunners progress to the last four and is tipping the north London side to make it through.
Speaking in an interview with Italian newspaper Il Mattino, Wenger said: “I will be an Arsenal fan on the night of game against Napoli, just as I have been during all their matches this season.
“Emery doesn’t need any advice from me. I am a huge fan of Carlo Ancelotti, he’s one of the greatest technicians of all time, a true master in the way he works with his teams.
“But Arsenal are a great team and for Napoli it will be a very difficult task to knock them out.”
Arsenal are currently in fourth place in the Premier League table as they look to try and finish in the top four for the first time in two years.
The north London side ended up in sixth place and without a trophy last season before Unai Emery replaced Wenger at The Emirates in the summer.
Arsenal will return to Premier League action when they host Newcastle United on 1 April.
