Paul Merson is backing Arsenal to maintain control of the top-four race by beating Newcastle United at The Emirates on Monday night.

The Gunners will host Rafael Benitez’s side in the final fixture of the Premier League weekend, having watched Chelsea FC and Manchester United play their top-flight fixtures.

Arsenal battling with the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea FC for a top-four finish this season.

Chelsea FC will make the trip to Cardiff City on Sunday looking to avoid successive Premier League defeats on the road.

Arsenal have only lost one Premier League game at The Emirates this season following a 2-0 defeat by defending champions Manchester City in their opening fixture of the campaign.

Former Gunners midfielder Merson is backing Arsenal to ease past Newcastle at The Emirates on Monday night.

“Newcastle are a dangerous side; they’ve been really good recently, are hard to beat and have a couple of match-winners in their team,” Merson told Sky Sports.

“But these are the kind of matches Arsenal finish off.

“If Liverpool had Arsenal’s remaining fixtures they would win the league, but you just know that Arsenal won’t win all of these games and that’s why they are not a shoo-in for the top four.”

Arsenal have missed out on a top-four finish in the last two Premier League seasons, culminating in Arsene Wenger’s departure at the north London side.

Unai Emery’s side will take on Napoli for a place in the Europa League semi-finals next month as the Spanish head coach looks to win the competition for the fourth time.
