Michael Owen gives his prediction for Arsenal v Newcastle
BT Sport pundit Michael Owen is confident Arsenal will ease past Newcastle at The Emirates on Monday night
Michael Owen is backing Arsenal to beat Newcastle United at The Emirates on Monday night.
The Gunners will be eager to cement their bid to finish in the top four with a vital win against the Magpies in north London.
Unai Emery’s side have managed to regroup in the Premier League in recent months to establish themselves as favourites to finish in the top four.
Arsenal have beaten Huddersfield, Bournemouth and Southampton to keep pace with their top-four rivals Chelsea FC and Manchester United.
The Gunners became the first Premier League team to beat Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United side before the international break.
Goals from Granit Xhaka and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sealed a 2-0 win at The Emirates and hoisted Arsenal above Manchester United and into fourth spot.
Arsenal have a slender two-point lead over Manchester United in the race to secure the final Champions League spot.
Former Liverpool FC striker Owen is backing Arsenal to ease past Newcastle on Monday night to win their fourth game in five Premier League outings.
“Arsenal have won their last six home Premier League games with Newcastle and averaged three goals a game in that sequence,” Owen told BetVictor.
“United showed with their late equaliser at Bournemouth in their last match that they do not lack in passion or commitment, but the Gunners are one of only three sides with a perfect home league record in 2019 and have won their last nine Premier League games at the Emirates.”
Arsenal haven’t finished in the Premier League’s top four in the last two seasons.
The Gunners have made some progress under Emery this season after the Spanish head coach replaced Arsene Wenger last summer.
