Chelsea FC slammed for ’embarrassing’ handling of Callum Hudson-Odoi

Chris Sutton believes Chelsea FC should be embarrassed that Callum Hudson-Odoi has made his England debut ahead of his first Premier League start.

Maurizio Sarri has been reluctant to pick Hudson-Odoi in his starting XI in the Premier League this term, although the English prospect has made six appearances from the bench.

Hudson-Odoi started and made an assist on his England debut in their 5-1 victory over Montenegro in their Euro 2020 qualifier on Monday night.

The 18-year-old received plenty of plaudits for his performance on his full England debut to fuel speculation surrounding his future at Chelsea FC.

Hudson-Odoi has scored five goals and has made three assists in 10 games in the Europa League and the FA Cup this term.

Bayern Munich were rumoured to have made a £36m offer for Hudson-Odoi in January, but the teenager remained at Chelsea FC.

Former Chelsea FC striker Sutton can’t fathom that Sarri still hasn’t given Hudson-Odoi his Premier League debut.

“Chelsea may have turned down Bayern Munich’s offer in January but I don’t think we’ve heard the last of that,” Sutton told the Daily Mail.

“Hudson-Odoi just wants to play. It is embarrassing for Chelsea that he can put on that kind of performance on the international stage without having started a game for his club.”

Chelsea FC started the Premier League weekend in sixth place in the Premier League table and three points adrift of the top four.

The Blues will take on Slavia Prague for a place in the Europa League semi-finals next month.

Sarri’s side lost to Manchester City on penalties in the League Cup final earlier this season
