BT Sport pundit raves about Chelsea FC starlet Callum Hudson-Odoi
Owen Hargreaves has his say on Callum Hudson-Odoi's situation at Chelsea FC
Owen Hargreaves has heaped praise on Callum Hudson-Odoi and is hoping he will get his chance at Chelsea FC after the arrival of Christian Pulisic in the summer.
The 18-year-old came off the bench to score in Chelsea FC’s 3-0 win over Dynamo Kyiv in the Europa League on Thursday night as he continues to impress whenever called upon by Maurizio Sarri.
Hudson-Odoi’s future at Chelsea FC has been a source of speculation of late due to the fact that his contract at Stamford Bridge is due to expire in the summer of 2020.
He has found his playing time limited this season, with the teenager yet to start a Premier League game this season.
And former Manchester United midfielder Hargreaves has admitted that he cannot understand why the Blues have opted to sign Pulisic considering the talent they have available in the form of Hudson-Odoi.
Speaking in an interview with BT Sport on Thursday night, Hargreaves said: “I love him [Hudson-Odoi]. Just look at what he has achieved at the age of 18.
“Every time he plays he affects the game and makes things happen. The only problem is Willian and Pedro are producing as well.
“But every time he plays he looks ready. He needs more games. If he doesn’t get them he should go elsewhere.
“The problem is they’ve just spent £50m on Pulisic. What’s the point of that? You can’t tell me he’s a better player than Callum. Not in a million years! It’s bizarre.
“It doesn’t look like the opportunities are there. So he may have to go play somewhere else for a year on loan and then come back.”
Chelsea FC will return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon when they host Wolves in the top flight.
The Blues are currently sixth but will move back into fourth spot above Manchester United and Arsenal if they win their game in hand before.
